What’s better than a trip to the future?
A trip through time that leaves you better prepared with how to deal with today.
For Brian David Johnson, or BDJ as he refers to himself, thinking like a futurist is his MO (method of operation).
Brian is a professor at Arizona State University where he is the head of their Futuring Department.
Teaching others ‘how to future’ involves sharpening threat- casting skills, refining the ability to think ahead, and strengthening strategic decision-making. For BDJ spreading these skills is both a delight and a challenge.
To highlight how methods of futuring are applicable everywhere, Brian took us all on a journey of his experiences from technology companies like Dell, to the US Special Forces, to show us how pulling out components of our future can help us with the now.
Like many futurists, cyberneticists, and everyone in between, BDJ is a huge believer that in factoring-in humans-in-the-loop we can better use technology today to give us the best possible tomorrow.
We loved hosting BDJ at the ANU School of Cybernetics. It is always a treat to collaborate with others out there who share similar views of the future and who are also working so incredibly hard to help us get to a safe, sustainable, and responsible future. One built by people for people.
