Ella McCarthy is a Communication Specialist within the School of Cybernetics.

Ella is a cybernetic storyteller. She amplifys work from the School of Cybernetics, sharing people and their projects with the wider community through accessible storytelling.

She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Art from the ANU, with majors in the interdisciplinary fields of Science Communication, Biological Anthropology, English and Digital Humanities. In 2023 she received First Class Honours for her research in Science Communication on understanding ‘Audeince’, recently published in Public Understanding of Science.

Along with fellow cyberneticist Isabel Richards, Ella hosts the lovingly crafted podcast Sci_Burst which uses wonderful medium of popular culture to explore science in an accessible way. In her spare time, Ella works on projects to empower people in the energy transition.
