Dr Caitlin Bentley joined the 3A Institute, Australian National University, in July 2018. Dr Bentley has assisted in the development of a new applied science through her role as Research Fellow, teaching the 3Ai Master of Applied Cybernetics. Dr Bentley’s belief is that in order to manage AI at scale and make an impact we need to develop a new generation of practitioners. Her focus, in addition to assisting with developing and teaching the Masters, includes case study research on cyber-physical systems and how to apply findings to the real world. She is particularly interested in applications of AI for social good, focusing on how to make cyber-physical systems more inclusive.
Prior to joining the 3A Institute, Dr Bentley worked within the area of information and communications technologies (ICT) for development since 2003. With a research career spanning from Canada to the UK, Africa, Singapore and now Australia, Caitlin has contributed to a number of projects focused on enhancing learning and accountability through ICT, open development, the platform economy and artificial intelligence.
Dr Bentley holds a PhD in Human Geography from Royal Holloway University of London, UK, an MA in Educational Technology from Concordia University, Canada, and a BA in Computer Science from McGill University, Canada. She is a Fellow of the UK’s Software Sustainability Institute and of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).
