Gabriela is a Research Fellow at the School of Cybernetics and a researcher on Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics.

As a recognition for her career, she was distinguished with the Woman in Science Career Award from Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization.

In the last 20 years Gabriela had worked in research centers and universities and participated in projects related to language technologies and machine learning for text processing.

She is passionate about working in multidisciplinary teams and producing technology for social good: text simplification, language learning, text understanding for detecting mental health issues, NLP for endangered languages, e-health, among others. Teaching, supervising and connecting with students is also a big part of her professional life.

She is also a member of the Australasian Language Technology Association Committee.

Gabriela likes cloud watching, abstract painting, and sailing.
