David is a Visiting Fellow at the School of Cybernetics whose research brings together psychodynamic and cybernetic perspectives to explore how institutions and technologies mediate relationships between people. His current work explores how creative and recreative practices can enhance the capacity of social systems to learn and adapt in conditions of uncertainty.
His approach to systems has been shaped though his training as an engineer, doctoral research in social theory, and professional experience as a management consultant. Over the course of his career, he has applied systems thinking in roles spanning cultural change in government service delivery, regulatory policy development and research in the communications and media sector, and creative leadership of a public art commissioning program. He currently manages government policy and programs to make a positive difference in Tasmania’s visitor economy.
David also co-directs the multi-artform collaboration Unconscious Collective, is a keen gardener and swimmer, and lives in nipaluna/Hobart.
