Curious. Practical. Purpose-driven.#
Muhammad Asfour is a service designer at Services Australia. He works with the Enterprise Innovation team to reimagine government services with thoughtful, human-centred solutions. With a background in industrial design, quality management, and education, Muhammad brings a rare combination of creativity, technical knowledge, and systemic thinking to his work. His passion lies in solving real-world problems through elegant design, guided by close observation and a deep commitment to continuous learning.
Over six years at Services Australia, Muhammad has led quality management initiatives and team development efforts, often stepping beyond his core responsibilities to co-create tools and infrastructure that improve workplace systems and staff experience. His previous career in the construction and joinery industries also continues to shape his practical, hands-on approach to design and innovation.
Drawn to the Master of Applied Cybernetics by his desire to understand and influence the complex relationships between people, systems, and technology, Muhammad sees cybernetics as a powerful lens for navigating modern challenges. For him, cybernetic thinking extends design beyond products to the systems that shape our daily lives. The program has enabled him to build on his design foundations and explore cyber-physical systems that bridge the digital and physical worlds.
Looking ahead, Muhammad is passionate about applying cybernetic approaches to improve service delivery, promote sustainable manufacturing practices, and foster inclusive, adaptive systems across sectors. Whether in government, industry, or his own joinery business, he is driven by a vision of innovation that serves both people and the planet.
