Adventurer. Fully. Alive.#
Jacob Choi is an adventurer, having grown up in New Zealand and lived abroad in the US and South Korea. As a father and former teacher, he loves seeing young people adopt and adapt with AI in its various forms - sometimes with little need for instruction or direction.
Following the Masters of Applied Cybernetics, Jacob worked on AI implementation in the Australian Army, becoming a bridge between Microsoft engineers and Australian Army combat brigade users of a natural language processing project in 2021.
Jacob has since worked at the National Portrait Gallery as Executive Officer to the Director, facilitated leadership programs for Asian Australians and digital hygiene workshops to help executive leaders to intentionally use their digital devices.
Jacob’s vision is to ensure human leadership, autonomy and agency are mindfully employed regardless of how AI transforms our world, and in whichever form factor. Ahead of the incoming surge of mixed reality devices, Jacob is fascinated with how people are portrayed, and why some appearances of generated AI imagery resonate with their original image bearers.
Jacob studied the Masters to understand how cybernetics shapes our emerging technology, the role of faith and worldview in our perceptions of agency, and to network with professionals outside of Defence. Jacob has since remained part of ANU, returning to participate in the William Ah Ket Leadership Program, facilitating its return and joining Crossroads Church at ANU Kambri every Sunday.
Areas of Expertise: Military Cybernetics, Digital hygiene, Portraiture and Generated Images of People,Organisational thinking, Teaming and Adoption of AI, Ethics, Worldview and Faith: how the image of God is borne by all people.
