This question is at the heart of our mission, and our way in is cybernetics. We are drawing on the history of cybernetics and reimagining it for our 21st century challenges.

A non-traditional school based in the College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics at the Australian National University, we are making space for different futures. Futures that consider the environment, the people within it, and how technology can help, rather than harm. Futures that are safe, sustainable and responsible.

The School of Cybernetics is led by Distinguished Professor Genevieve Bell.

How will we build it?#

Education#

Explore different ways into education and training—from training a new type of engineer to bringing skills development to the broadest cross-section of society.

Knowledge#

Conduct novel research with diverse partners to yield insights that will lead to action.

People#

Bring together people from different places, backgrounds and disciplines to activate a systems approach to building, deploying and decommissioning technology systems.
