Design at the School of Cybernetics aims to reinvigorate cybernetics for the 21st century and shape a sustainable space and place within the School for the creation and emergence of the novel and unexpected.

Why Design?#

Design and the arts enable us to have conversations with our pasts, look differently at our presents, and iteratively imagine potential futures for and with our diverse and vibrant communities. They bring to life the iteration, dynamicity, movement and interdependencies within and between systems, and help us to ask questions, intervene and build intentionally towards the futures we want to see.

What we are doing?#

Design is inviting practitioners of design and the arts to reflect on the past, ask questions about the present, and imagine the future of cybernetics in collaboration with our communities. We are commissioning, convening and curating new and existing cybernetic artefacts, learning experiences, research and events through design sprints and theory-into-practice encounters.

Our Programs#

We are focused on delivering three programs of work: Cybernetic Imagination Residencies, Cybernetic Imagination Projects, and Cybernetic Snacks
